gemstone
GOLDSTONE is a man-made glittering glass. There is no mystery in why goldstone is so popular in jewelry design.
There is a lot of confusion about the name and the origins of this exciting substance. The most common form of goldstone is reddish-brown, due to the presence of tiny crystals of metallic copper. Some goldstone variants have an intensely colored glass matrix, usually blue- violet, rarely green, and a more silvery appearance to the suspended crystals, which may be based on different metals (cobalt, manganese, or chromium).

One of the names wrongfully used for goldstone is "aventurine". On the other hand, natural aventurine, is a variety of quartz. In its natural form, aventurine contains chips of mica or other reflective substances. It can be cut into gemstones and is used frequently in jewelry.

The word aventurine comes from the French word "aventure," meaning "chance." Legend states that the glass was invented by mistake when a group of Italian monks dropped copper shavings into a batch of molten glass. The Italian words "avventízio" and "avventuràto" also suggest a "lucky accident" for the origin of the glass. This legend gave rise to the alternate names "monk's gold" or "monkstone". Another name, "stellaria", is based on the starry internal reflections. Goldstone is also called "sun sitara".
